Confirmation

Our confirmation preparation group welcomes baptized young people from grade 6 and up. Preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a process that involves learning, prayer, reflection and service to others. It is our hope that we can provide our young people with the opportunity to grow in faith, experience the warmth of a strong Catholic community, and explore the various charisms that will help them in their lifelong calling to serve God and each other.
The Confirmation preparation process involves all of the following:
-
monthly participation in Confirmation preparation meetings
-
weekly participation at Saturday or Sunday Mass
-
monthly participation in Youth Group.
Our group will begin meeting in late September with a Youth Retreat and continue until Confirmation in May. There is a Community Service component associated with our preparation, which will tie in with Youth Group and helping at weekly Mass.
Before confirmation, the group will have a refresher session on the sacrament of reconciliation and a Reconciliation service. The group reconvenes for one more session after confirmation to reflect on their experience and think about what God has planned for them next!
As the church recognizes the parent(s) as the primary catechist(s) for their children, we ask that at least one parent attend each sacramental preparation session with their child. You will find that this will serve not only as a faith experience for you but also as a special time for you and your child to bond as you grow in faith together.
In addition to our sacramental preparation sessions, the best way for you to help your young person to become familiar with the ebb and flow of Mass, and to feel prepared to celebrate their confirmation, is to attend Mass regularly. They can celebrate with the whole church community or choose to volunteer as a youth leader for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.) for part of the Mass.
It is important to recognize that each sacramental preparation session is not a class, with material that must be learned. Instead, we can view each meeting as a faith experience and an opportunity to grow closer to God. That being said, if you cannot commit to attending all sacramental preparation sessions, you are always welcome to register for next year.
