Confirmation

Confirmation

Our confirmation preparation group welcomes baptized young people from grade 6 and up. Preparation sessions take place weekly from September to November. Our newly confirmed Catholics are welcome to continue to live out their faith by volunteering in the parish as youth leaders in Children’s Liturgy or sacramental preparation, as altar servers, by joining our Youth Group, by helping out with our Sandwich Club, and in many other ways.

Before confirmation, the group will have a refresher session on the sacrament of reconciliation and a Reconciliation service. The group reconvenes for one more session after confirmation to reflect on their experience and think about what God has planned for them next!

As the church recognizes the parent(s) as the primary catechist(s) for their children, we ask that at least one parent attend each sacramental preparation session with their child. You will find that this will serve not only as a faith experience for you but also as a special time for you and your child to bond as you grow in faith together.

In addition to our sacramental preparation sessions, the best way for you to help your young person to become familiar with the ebb and flow of Mass, and to feel prepared to celebrate their confirmation, is to attend Mass regularly. They can celebrate with the whole church community or choose to volunteer as a youth leader for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.) for part of the Mass.

It is important to recognize that each sacramental preparation session is not a class, with material that must be learned. Instead, we can view each meeting as a faith experience and an opportunity to grow closer to God. That being said, if you cannot commit to attending all eight sacramental preparation sessions, you are always welcome to register for next year.
