“The world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point” (LD 2)

In Laudate Deum, the Apostolic Exhortation released on October 4, 2023, Pope Francis calls “all people of good will” to take action on the climate crisis and “move beyond the mentality of appearing to be concerned but not having the courage needed to produce substantial changes.” (LD 56) He particularly calls on us in Canada as well as other wealthy countries of the Global North to make personal changes to our consumerist lifestyles, reduce our fossil fuel use, and to also advocate for systemic actions to address the climate crisis.
As we all look for ways to respond authentically to this call from Pope Francis, we are reminded of the wonderful letter of Superior General Luis Alonso Rois Alonso OMI as well as that section from the 37th General Chapter on Laudato Si, which reads, “…each Oblate and every Oblate community, ministry, and institution, will undertake a process of reflection and concrete action…”
How can Oblate responses grow and deepen?
Here are some ideas to which we could commit ourselves, individually and communally. You may decide which commitments you might make, given your own living situation and possibilities in the context of your mission. Click here for the pledge form: MY LAUDATE DEUM ACTION PLEDGE

To continue this wonderful initiative, our 507 Sandwich Club needs funding. Centre 507 has seen an unforeseen rise in their numbers and therefore cannot continue to help fund this parish initiative through their grants from the City of Ottawa. Therefore, we are looking to secure a corporate sponsor to help purchase the groceries to enable us to continue making sandwiches in 2024 and beyond. Many thanks to our parishioners who continue to donate to help feed our neighbours. For more information, please email cmpsandwich507@gmail.com.
